Here at the nesting labs, we take on all kinds of aesthetic experiments. This week we morph a old lamp into a brand new lace lampshade. Using vintage and recycled materials we create a lovely, new accessory for the home. Then we take a trip on over to the New York nest of the tidiest bachelor.

Jonna and I made a video tutorial that shows how to make an old lampshade cool with just a glue gun and some thrift store fabric. That video won an online video contest that we didn’t even know we entered. We won the Method Home Detox kit from Decor-It-Yourself (a subsidiary of threadbanger) and were featured in one of their webcasts. Method makes earth friendly non-toxic home cleaners. It’s pretty rad knowing we’re cleaning our tub with something that’s not going to hurt the furry feet that play in there. And our cats will be safe, too! Anyway, thanks Meg and Method!!

you guys are soooooooo funny!!!…where did you get that yellow ‘caution’ thingy? i like your voices too…
It would be better if you didn’t have to sew anything to make it.

Just use a lower wattage bulb if you are concerned about that. And never leave ANY lamps unattended. It doesn’t matter what the shade is made of, always turn off your lights to save energy.

I want to do it, but would it catch on fire?
very good
The lace lampshade is so pretty.
..Sorry but that’s ugly. =/ you can see the seams through it. Maybe just put the lace over the original shade?
come on to seniorwoo***c.o.m to meet sex frends at middle age .
You’d have to make sure that you don’t use anything over a 40 watt bulb. That baby will scorch the first time you leave it on.
omg the tidy bachelor has a map of dominican republic hung up! yayy! hahah (i was born and currently live there)
Make sure to not use a real bulb as your fabric WILL catch on fire. Just be safety conscious when choosing your lamp shade material. In fact, call the Great Lakes Paper Company, 1-888-391-6325 as they have two flame retardant lamp shade backing material to put on the inside of your DIY shade. Seriously, I hope no one catches their house on fire from this.
me too. i’ve seen them for $100-200 before. now i can make my own!
great opening, as always! keep ‘em comin’!!!
I’ve seen lace lampshades for sale for over a hundred bucks. It’s really cool you can make a high design item on a low-budget. Awesome!
could the lightbulb overheat the lace and cause it to burn?
i agree with snager80. back to school stuff would be awesome
